Abstract
New challenges arise for the communication sector linked to the data revolution, the Internet of Things and/or Artificial Intelligence. Big Data, i.e. the opportunities for handling this vast amount of data and its analysis, can enable breakthroughs and research of enormous interest. At the same time, serious ethical questions emerge regarding the origin and/or use of such data. Data in journalism, its analysis and interpretation are becoming more abundant and more important, so attention needs to be paid to quantitative forms and their role in contemporary communication and journalistic practice needs to be examined. This monograph therefore raises a necessary reflection on how data processing can contribute to the field of Communication, as well as encouraging critical questions about its current status and future developments
